Sleek new laptop

So how sleek is the laptop? Is it worth going over to the dark side for?

It's an HP Pavilion DV6623EM, if you're interested. A fast Athlon 64-bit dual processor, which the installed OS cannot make proper use of. 2GB of memory. A 250GB hard disc, some of which HP have retained for their system restore software. A 1280 x 800 screen, 15.4" across the diagonal. An Nvidia 8400M GS graphics set. And a dinky little remote control that clicks into the body of the laptop when not in use. (With the HDMI cable run from the laptop to a big telly, and the remote in hand, the laptop becomes a ludicrously overpriced DVD player).

The whole thing is over 3kg, and the battery only runs for a couple of hours.

A new start

For the past few years, my only operating system has been an open one: I've meandered through a series of Unices and Linuces: fully installed ones; ones run from CD; French ones; German ones.

However, today I bought a laptop for the first time: every laptop I've possessed before this has been my employer's.

Laptops being what they are... I've bought one with an OS pre-installed and built - Windows Vista Home Premium.

Over the next while, I'll be blogging how I get on with it, and with my pretty darn sleek laptop.
